What does a Insights Analyst do for you?

“

Think of a translator at a busy conference.

Many people are talking at once in different languages. The translator listens to all of it and tells you clearly what is being said and what matters.

1

Gathers feedback

Support questions, surveys, reviews and calls in one place.

2

Finds the patterns

What customers ask for most, and why.

3

Recommends action

Clear priorities for the product and Customer Success teams.

When you need one

Signs it is time to bring one in.

If two or more of these sound familiar, add this role to your Customer Success team.

Bring one in when

  • ✓Feedback is scattered across emails, chats and calls
  • ✓You cannot say what customers ask for most
  • ✓Product decisions are based on the loudest customer
  • ✓You have survey results nobody has analysed
  • ✓You want to know why customers stay or leave

You can wait if

  • …You have very few customers and hear from all of them directly
What they own

Four areas a Insights Analyst takes off your plate.

01

Feedback collection

Surveys and channels that capture what customers think.

02

Analysis

Patterns and themes from feedback and product data.

03

Insight reports

Short, clear summaries with recommendations.

04

Closing the loop

Telling customers when their feedback led to a change.

What to expect

Across a 60 Volunteer day term.

Volunteers give up to three hours a day, Monday to Friday, over three months or more. Daily and weekly updates keep you informed, and rapid feedback from you in the first two weeks makes the biggest difference.

1
✦

Weeks 1 and 2

Gathers existing feedback, agrees the questions to answer and sets up simple tracking. Expect daily updates and give rapid feedback.

2
▤

By mid term

A first insight report with the top themes and recommendations.

3
★

By day 60

A regular feedback process, a prioritised list of customer requests and a handover so the next analyst can continue.

Choosing the right Volunteer

What to ask, and what to look for.

You do not need to be an expert to recruit well. Use these questions at interview and listen for the signs below.

Questions to ask

  • ?How would you bring feedback from different places together?
  • ?Show me an analysis or report you produced.
  • ?How do you decide which feedback matters most?
  • ?How would you share findings so the team acts on them?

Good signs

  • ✓Combines numbers with real customer quotes
  • ✓Keeps reports short and clear
  • ✓Recommends actions, not only findings

Red flags

  • ✕Reports only what the loudest customers say
  • ✕Produces long reports with no recommendations
  • ✕Ignores data protection when handling feedback
Your part as a Tech Founder

Give them this, and they deliver from Day 1.

  • ✓Access to support records, surveys and product data
  • ✓The questions you most want answered
  • ✓Time with the Product Manager
  • ✓Permission to survey or contact customers
  • ✓A signed Volunteer Agreement before they start
FAQ

Questions Tech Founders ask.

Is this the same as market research? +
Related, but focused on existing customers. Market research studies potential customers; this role studies the customers you already have.
What tools do they need? +
Often just a spreadsheet, your support tool and a survey tool. More advanced analysis can come later.
Where can Volunteers learn about this role? +
How much does it cost to recruit this role? +
Volunteers give their time for experience, not pay. You subscribe to the Advanced (GTM) plan at £250 a month or £2,500 a year, which lets you recruit up to 100 Volunteer team members across Marketing, Sales and Customer Success. See the plans.
